A Cool Arnold Schwarzenegger DVD Box Set (Full Review)

In this article, I’m going to present you something I think every Arnold fan would appreciate – an Arnold Schwarzenegger DVD box set, found on Amazon and containing some of the iconic movies of the Austrian Oak.

I decided to write a review about it first because I’m a huge Arnold fan and secondly because I knew that there are other folks out there who would want to be informed about it.

Now, I’m sure that these films need no introduction because their status is legendary nowadays but since this is my first product review and I want everything to be perfect, I’ll give you some information about them.

‘Predator’ is a very funny action movie, directed by John McTiernan (‘Die Hard’).

It tells the story of a team of highly trained soldiers led by Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) whose mission in the Central American jungle goes terribly wrong when they find themselves hunted by a blood-thirsty extra-terrestrial predator.

‘Commando’ is also a real gem in the action movie genre from the 80’s.

Directed by Mark L. Lester (‘Showdown in Little Tokyo’) the plot centers around the former commando John Matrix who starts a one man war against a South American drug lord who made the mistake to kidnap his little daughter.

With an unbelievable body count, this is one of the most action-packed Arnold movies ever.

Be sure that you will have a great, fun time with this one. Just try not to choke from laughter.

‘True Lies’ is another beer.

It is an almost flawless blockbuster with some awesome performances.

What is different about it is that it lacks the big violence factor that the other movies have and it is made for the masses.

Directed by James Cameron himself, the movie falls into the action-comedy genre.

Arnold plays Harry Tasker – a skilled government agent who hides his professional identity from his sexy wife Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Once he realizes that his wife might be having an affair, Harry tries to split his time between the dangerous mission he is involved in and the potential affair of his wife.

Of course, nothing is as it seems and many complications follow.

All three movies are totally worth watching and a must-see for every Arnold fan.

Technical Specifications of the Box Set

Here comes the important part.

Of course, you can see all that in the ‘Product Details’ section but I’ll just point out the significant part.

• It is a three-disc set.
• It is not rated but you should know that most of the Arnold flicks are ‘R’ rated meaning that they contain a great amount of violence. Bottom line is that you should be cautious watching the movies with your ten-year-old.
• The language is English which is cool (and expected, but trust me sometimes there are surprises).
• Beware that this is a DVD format and will not play on your Blu-Ray player.
• The format is multiformat, color and as per the description widescreen.
• Now, based on my research, there are some people who complain that for them, the picture is not widescreen and they cannot adjust the aspect ratio to be 16:9, stretched fit or wide fit, meaning that they couldn’t watch it on a widescreen TV. For others though, there is no problem and the ratings are quite positive. So I guess that if you have a decent DVD player, or you watch it on a computer you won’t have any issues.
• Another important thing is that this is a Region 1 DVD format, which means that it is only for US and Canada. Read more about the DVD formats here.

Pros and Cons of the DVD Box Set

I tend to start with the pros so let’s do it.

Pros:

• The Price is more than fair for a 3 DVD box set containing some of the most celebrated Arnold films
• Amazon is the world’s most renowned and largest online retailer and its name is a synonym for trust and quality in terms of products and shipping.
• The average customer review rating is more than satisfactory
• Unlike some other DVD sets, this one comes with an enhanced packaging and even a gift-wrap is available
• The movies included in the collection are among the best Arnold actioners ever made – true classics.

Cons:

• The DVD box set does not contain special features but only trailers.
• Some people complain about the quality of the picture, claiming not to be widescreen but many other reviewers confirm that it is widescreen indeed.
• It is fitted only for region 1 DVD format, so US and Canada only.
• The item quickly gets out of stock due to the high demand.

Who Is It For

First, the DVD box set is for Arnold fans who love to enjoy his classic movies on a high quality.

Therefore, it is a great addition to one’s DVD collection.

Secondly, it is for action moviegoers who collect old movies from the 90’s.

Then, it is for people searching for the perfect present for a friend or family member who likes action movies and especially the vintage Arnold films.

After comparing it to other similar products and especially after weighting the pros and cons, this Arnold DVD collection, containing three of his best movies is totally worth the buy.

‘Predator’, ‘Commando’ and ‘True Lies’ are among the most celebrated and entertaining vintage action movies on the market.

The ratio quality: price is fantastic and you’ll hardly find this quality at a cheaper price for three awesome movies on a DVD.

The action flicks included will please every action fan no matter if one is a die-hard Schwarzenegger admirer or not.
